SILLY GUMBO NIGHTMARE

Seppi LOVES Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. He doesn't watch it all day long, but when I am preparing dinner or he needs a tiny 20 minute break we'll turn on Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and he'll sit still and watch intently while I can get a little something done. Thank goodness for ON DEMAND.
So there is an episode that he has watched maybe 4 times "Pajama Party" I believe it is called. In this episode Goofy tells the "gang" a "scary story" about the SILLY GILLY GUMBO, the actual story is very brief but it scares Goofy pretty bad and then for another 10 minutes they try and figure out what differnt sounds are because Goofy is afraid it's the Gumbo.
Well Seppi's imagination sure has caught fire these last couple of months, he pretends he's a dr, or a chef, or an elephant, he also pretends he can see "the monster in the water." Anyway, he's been pretending that he can hear the Silly Gilly Gumbo he'll say "whats that noise?" and I'll ask "is it scary?" and He'll always say "no, its not scary, it's not real." To which I'd say "thats right its not real."
Well last night at 1:43am (or so) I heard an awful scream and cry, Seppi's first nightmare...
I came into his room and gave him a hug and he said "SILLY GILLY GUMBO- SCARY"
He's never done that before, but it obviously has been on his mind a bit too much.
I am so mad that Disney JR. would have something that would give him nightmares.

Anyway beware of that episode...

Is it possible that something completely unrelated to the episode scared him and, being unable to explain it, he used the term 'silly gilly gumbo' to describe it? My son talks talks about the silly gilly gumbo a lot, but he mentions it any time he hears something he can't describe like a noise outside the house. Just a thought.

That is so cute... But so sad he had a nightmare. He is so smart and creative that I am blown away with all the new things he is coming up with. He is so sweet

Hey! My 2 and a half years old just screamed Silly Gumbo when I left him alone, I HAD NO IDEA what it is until I googled it and thankfully found your blog. How did you deal with the Silly Gumbo situation?

Hi my friend's four year old has been having some nightmares over the past few weeks. He mentioned Silly Gumbo and looked quite scared when he talked about it. My niece googled the name and came across this page. This is obvioulsy having an impact on some children. We are all pleased that we now understand what the possible root of the problem could be. These comments have been very helpful. Thank you.

my daughter is two and is afraid if the silly gilly gumbo. she tells me its under her bed or in her room and doesn't want to sleep in her room like she used to. I bought a lavender room/linen spray and I spray wherever she thinks it is. it has helped!

My daughter is almost 3, she watches Mickey Mouse Clubhouse in our bedroom while I take a shower in the morning. I never thought there would ever be anything scary on it. I was wrong. The silly billy gumbo touches her a night - creepy!!!!! I wish they would remove this from the play list so no other little one has to be scared of it.

My two year old suddenly started mentioning this "silly gumbo" business a few days ago. My husband & I had no clue what she was talking about and didn't feed too much into the situation. It was not until she started saying "scary silly gumbo" that I decided to Google the phrase. I am so thankful to have found this blog. Now I can explain to my daughter that there is no need to fear "silly gumbo". Thanks.

My son is almost 3 and is also terrified of the silly gilly gumbo. We'll never watch that episode again. It's interesting to see how many other children have the same issue.

We have this same issue going on!! I'm not sure what episode my 2 year old son watched, but it very well could be the same one your child watched. We've only had one instance of a nightmare, but he does talk about it quite often.

My brother (hes 4) just watched this episode and was terrifed to leave my room after he came downstairs to tell me the story. He was screaming and crying saying the "silly gilly gumbo" was in our house waiting for him..

Since my son was about 20 months, he's been gasping and saying, "Gumbo?!" when it's dark or when he hears a noise or sometimes when he sees a picture of an owl! Or he says, "Is Gumbo coming???" I was wondering who scared him for months. I was so surprised today to find out it was the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse! I saw the episode today and my son saw the owl, quietly said "Gumbo," and backed up across the living room and hid behind the couch. Poor love!

I see this stupid cartoon has been an issue for quite sometime! Am annoyed that Disney has decided to still show it,I don't know how to let disney know it is 2014 and children are still dealing with fears about the silly gilly gumbo. My son just watched it yesterday.

He doesn't want to go in our Halley way because there are windows and the owl (silly gilly gumbo sound) may get him. This cartoon has to go, I thought Disney was trustworthy!

This is crazy! It is the SILLY Gilly Gumbo, not the Scarey Gilly Gumbo!

My daughter will be 2 on Saturday, & she LOVES the Silly Gilly Gumbo! In fact, she goes through the house everyday trying to make her own Silly Gumbos.
Her daddy bought her a little flashlight & everynight before bed, she shines her light on the bedroom wall & we all make Silly Gumbo's. She has to tell them all "night-night".

Goofy tells this story at Minnie's Pajama Party, & this is my little one's FAVORITE episode; she watches it at least 2-3 times a day!

And guess what she wants on her Birthday Cake this Saturday? Not Minnie!
Yep! She wants the Silly Gilly Gumbo!!!!

For our family silly gilly gumbo has a different meaning. My daughter is 2 and half and loves Mickey mouse. We probably let her watch way to much. Now our bedtime routine consists of the words dont let silly gilly gumbo get you. I love you and goodnight. She then sleeps with her Clubhouse friends and tells them it's okay.
